Agrii i AGRO-MASZ w uprawie kukurydzy na założeniach "Zielonego Ładu"

The earth's ecosystem has found itself in a double crisis due to human activity. Climate change and environmental degradation are becoming an existential threat to humanity.

Agrii and AGRO-MASZ in the cultivation of maize on the assumptions of the "Green Deal"

In 2018, researchers from the International Panel on Climate Change concluded that the safe level of global warming is 1.5 ° C. In order to maintain this state of affairs, it is necessary to globally reduce greenhouse gas emissions by half from the level of 2010. The climate cataclysm will become a reality if we do not implement full decarbonisation of the global economy.

The 2019 report on the state of biodiversity and ecosystems, prepared by the Intergovernmental Science and Policy Platform for Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES), showed a picture of the scale of damage to the biosphere. He showed that the degradation of the Earth's ecosystem caused by human interference with nature has led a million species to the brink of extinction and is starting to pose a threat to humans. This situation primarily affects food security and restricts access to clean water.

In view of the above facts, it can be presumed that the European Green Deal is a model that would have a chance to stop the destruction of the climate and the environment.

As part of the vision of the Green Deal, the European Union has adopted a new agricultural strategy, called "From Farm to Fork". Its aim is to guarantee food security and, at the same time, to reduce the negative impact of agriculture on the environment. This is mainly related to greenhouse gas emissions, about 10% of which is attributable to agriculture itself, including the use of pesticides, antibiotics and fertilizers.

The assumptions of the plan until 2030 are, first of all, increasing the scale of organic farming to 25% of all crops and reducing the amount of all used chemical pesticides, including hazardous ones, by 50%, as well as reducing the amount of artificial fertilizers by 20%.

The agriculture of the entire European Union faces an enormous challenge, which raises a lot of controversy. Question marks can be asked, e.g. in the context of how and what about the profitability of production without pesticides or artificial fertilizers? In order to maintain profitability at the appropriate level, agrotechnical methods should be integrated in the cultivation of plants. Such challenges mobilize to create innovative solutions, hence the initiative to establish the project: Agrii and AGRO-MASZ in the cultivation of maize based on the assumptions of the "Green Deal". The idea of joint operation is based on a field experiment that combines the knowledge and experience of two companies that provide diverse and comprehensive methods in plant cultivation on a daily basis. Joining forces in this context gives hope that the expected result will be achieved.

The strategy of the European Union is aimed at limiting the use of means of production. It seems that the only direction of searching for appropriate solutions is the integration of individual links of agrotechnics. The methodologies of integrated production have been talked about for a long time, but in practice such production technologies can be found sporadically. Modern cultivation techniques and the application of mineral fertilizers have a chance to support and choose a technology that meets EU restrictions. The aim of the joint experience is therefore to achieve a maize cultivation solution that is in line with the assumptions of the "Green Deal" strategy. We are awaiting the results of the experiment, which we will inform about in the next articles.
